The many, many people offering advice all normally say the same thing;
Where do you want to go? Anywhere but here.
What companies or industries do you want to work for? Those listed in this post.
What do you want to do with your skills? Can you believe it, they are also listed in this post!
I just thought about talking about it. I'm not here to make 100k a year, that comes with too much responsibility, and my mental well-being is not worth sacrificing for your profit.
Simply put, here are three industries I would like to work in.
Hospitality
Hotels and resorts are busy places, and most of them in the Orlando area are either trying to help you save some coin, or give you a premium experience like Loews Luxury Hotels that also engage you with the local lifestyle and events.
IT support in hospitality is a huge field; It goes from making sure every room has a decent Wi-Fi connection (Or an Ethernet port available to a secure wired network, if that's your sort of thing), to making sure things like Disney World or Disney Land's virtual FastPasses and Magic Bands work to make your pockets lighter (in more ways than one) and your trip easier.
Supporting the efforts of Higher Education
While I still strongly believe that many avenues involving college are a serious waste for the individual, enough people still believe in that, and it's a far more relaxed atmosphere for learning - and learning for learning's sake should not be discouraged. Colleges are also a good place for creative ideas, the kind that grow into million-dollar startups.
There is no honor in supporting people wasting their time and health chasing paper, but there is in encouraging people to think outside of the box.
Banking Tech
Money is easy to spend and harder to gain.
While the age of sliding your card at a machine are not quite gone, Square is bringing all the old-school complexity of small businesses taking payments into a sleek set of terminals. Small businesses have to pay quite a lot to credit card companies to be able to take payments from them - Not doing so costs them a lot of business, because nearly everyone is using a card!
Visa is making efforts to make digital payments even more secure through every step of the payments ecosystem with a new Token service.
I like Banking Tech because if you make people feel fancy, high tech, and sophisticated when spending money, they'll spend more. And isn't that what we're aiming for, taking people's money? Don't lie, yes it is.
