Return of the Toy; Toys R US is now back Online Only, Essentially as a Front for Target

Article I was a pretty big Toys R US shopper from 2012 - 2017 or so. Not shopping for children (I have none), but because I was, and still am, a big fan of Funko Pops (Nerd pundits, go on, roll your eyes!), video games, and Mattel's various toylines of fantasy creatures in high school. Indeed, the new site looks far more modern and useable than the old one. There is also a little accessibility marker that leads to this page. Essentially, the TRU site is a front that leads you to purchase the object on Target's website - and even then, you may be buying from a third party often at far more inflated prices. Such is the cost of the blind-bag craze. Besides banking on Nostalgia, I'm not sure what Target's ultimate goal is here. Instead of jumping through all of those hoops, why not go to Target directly - or even Amazon? But I suppose nostalgia might just be enough.

Visa Checkout

Because Visa is still a target company, I'm going to talk about Visa Checkout . Also, it's my blog. Also #2; I didn't realize this existed until I bought a new(-adjacent) laptop from Best Buy. Did you know Best Buy sold open box electronics? Nor did I.

The T and G - T-Mobile Launching 5G, of course it's rather limited [The Verge]

As I read this article , the power is out. It's been flicking on and off for a few days now as construction is going on in the neighborhood. I'm using T-Mobile's Hotspot Feature yet again. And if I were in a city that mattered, such as LA, NYC, Vegas, and ones that matter slightly less but still matter more than where I am - Dallas, Cleveland - and had a Samsung Galaxy S10, I'd be cruising along on 5G. Curiously, they're not testing in Chicago, as Verizon already has that covered . mmWave Spectrum has even more limited of a range, so if I were in Hell's Kitchen in NYC, sipping a cappuccino from a local coffee shop, then I could be cruising along on 5G. There's one big caveat on having the Galaxy S10, however, and you can read about that at the source. EMPLOYERS : This is me keeping up with changing technologies.

Log Into Your Friend's Wi-Fi Network with a QR Code, Thanks Android Q [CNET]

Spoilers: You'll need a Pixel to run either Beta version of Q. So, I can't test it unless someone out there has an awesome hardware emulator. Article For those people who have "guests" at their home, instead of fiddling with nonsense, tell them to scan a QR code. You might also have to explain what that is and how it works, but with Lens, it looks far easier. You can read about how to generate the code at the article. I'm here to talk about actually scanning it.

SONY: Bigger Than You Know

Today I learned that Sony offers Life Insurance and that the movies and TV aspect is only about 11% of the company. EMPLOYERS : This is me learning about the past of a Target Company.

How It Works: The Emoji Movie

The posters were just too obnoxious, I couldn't subject you good people and myself to that. This is nice though. From IMDB. I am going to refrain from pointing out things like “Why are some emojis available immediately but others aren’t? Do emoji die?” where I can. That’s not tech, that’s “Who did this, and why aren’t they in jail?” (And that’s sarcasm). In case you were wondering, yes, it does have the same issue of characters from one app going into others without any ill effects that Ralph Breaks the Internet had, but it’s a movie. You do what you have to.

Apple Pay is Coming...To Target, Speedway, 7-11, and Taco Bell

Article ; Incoming "If you use an Apple product you probably aren't eating at Taco Bell," comment. Target's RedCard will work with Apple Pay. “With the addition of these national retailers, 74 of the top 100 merchants in the US and 65 per cent of all retail locations across the country will support Apple Pay,” notes Apple in a press release. I both do not use iPhones or ApplePay, and I enjoy keeping everything separate, so while interesting, it's not my style. Very surprised, with it's attempt at upscale, that it took this long for Target to get on that train.

"How Retailers Are Taking Your Money This Holiday" ft. Visa

The title is a bit hyperbolic, but let's be honest with ourselves, when a retailer takes a payment with a Visa machine, they get paid, and they certainly get money if you use a Visa credit card. It's a business. So, let's see how they're taking your money this holiday season under the guise of a 'better experience'! Ho ho ho! 1. Stop Standing In Line, Start Leaving Today From autonomous buying to virtual cuts, the time of lines is almost at an end if Visa has their way. Instead of a clunky POS system at a register, you can possibly interact with the customer from a mobile POS system with a decent and modern operating system (Like Square).

How it Works: Ralph Breaks the Internet

Disney's Ralph Breaks The Internet , the 57th entry into the Disney Animated Canon, was released on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018. I saw it - Loved it more than the original, wanted to watch it with the mind of a Network Admin  instead of turning my brain off all the way. While more technically sound than I expected, there are a few picks here and there.

Cryptography in Children's Books: Gregor And the Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins

While rereading this book series - the first time was about six or seven years ago - I was struck at a rather cryptographic code in the final book and wanted to share it with you. The Gregor the Overlander series is written by Suzanne Collins - The same woman who wrote The Hunger Games . I think this would make an excellent movie series. Spoilers for a children's book that's eleven years old based off of the Holocaust and World War II featuring humans fighting talking rats, moles, ants, and many other natural anomalies.

Towers of Power ( ft. T-MOBILE)

So, Hurricane Michael happened. Wiped out a lot of infrastructure - Xfinity is totally wiped out. Most importantly, it reaffirmed how I really want to get somewhere else ASAP. But we're going to poke around T-Mobile's network settings. Service was fairly restored around three days after the storm, and worked nicely until Thursday the 25th. While we had service, we were stuck on "emergency calls only" . Why? I don't know. The first rep my father talked to wasn't quite aware of what was happening, but sent us a signal booster, so yay for more things to learn. We could get the signal. We just didn't know why our phones - Two Samsungs and a LG - were no longer friends with the nearby tower. So I took things into my own hands - With everything else happening, he was content to take their word for it, but I know abnormal behavior when I see it - and talked through direct message on Twitter to the company .  Also, I'm not here to bad-mouth the ca

The Root of All Evil (To Samsung)

Warning - Rooting a phone makes it even more vulnerable to malware and attacks. Be mindful. That being said, let's make our phone even more vulnerable to malware and attacks, shall we.
