Business Bonus: Why did The "Willy Wonka Experience" Fool So Many People?

This month really has been FebruAIry, hasn't it?  ICYMI: The Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Experience , run by an "event" company, was an incredibly odd disappointment that happened in Glasgow, Scotland last week. The lush and wonderful treats promised were not in attendance, upsetting guests young and old. So you must be asking, why is this here? On a tech portfolio? Because I'm here to ask; How did this fool so many people? I don't blame the people who paid for this (Not totally): Some are parents who needed a fun activity for their families. Others just wanted to see a cool world and burn an hour or so. It's making us laugh all over the world. However, there were plenty of reasons to believe this wasn't up to snuff. Because just look at this site for the Willy Wonka Experience Event ; You and I can immediately see this is AI generated:   There are also no pictures about this actual event - or any of their past events - on the website. The copy ...

The Case of Android Auto

Cars have computers now.   Photo by Andrew M on Unsplash  Not mine, mine is about 20 years old. I put a key into the ignition, the CD player keeps eating my alt-pop-rock CDs, it gets me from here to there, and I like it. My next car will be the same, sans CD-eating. But! Other people's cars have computers, and sometimes I have to work on the computer parts.

Neptune by Hashnode

It's a blogging platform -- As you know (Well, as you know now ), I have been looking for places to export all of this to another platform, one with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and modern editing capabilities that is actually maintained by its owners. Check it out here on Product Hunt . You use Markdown to write; As someone who is used to the highlighter and change stylistic appearances way of things, it's a bit of a change. I'm not sure I've used markdown more than 4 or 5 times in my career -- 8 times in my life. Grammarly is built in; Technically, they're right. Similarly to Notion, we can type "/" for commands to appear. I can't format text the way I like to. The image may not show up on the final product as I used the hyperlink of the image hosted here. Ideally, this text 'new and SEO improved!' would be directly under the image and smaller, as a caption. Notion can do that.  One thing Notion cannot do that Neptune can (or will be abl...

CEScapades: Consumer Electronics Show 2020

Just like last year, I wasn't there. But it was certainly fun to see the variety of technology on show through the great reporting done by a variety of people (CNET, TechRepublic, Verge, BizJournal, ZDNet, even Variety). Power to The Players with Sony's Playstation 5 : 20 Years ago, the PS2 was released worldwide. Now, Sony is back at it again. The PS5 is scheduled for Holiday 2020, with an SSD and 3D audio. And, a logo. Fly Me to The 9 to 5: Flying Cars from Hyundai for ...Uber ! Will you need a new license to drive a flying car? The concept looks more like a plane with a lot of propellers than any kind of flying car you can imagine. Hyundai are calling them "electric vertical takeoff and landing" aircraft. Uber will start testing in Dallas and Los Angeles in 2023, because maybe there will be less smog in LA then.

Yes, There Are Competent IT and Cyberprofessionals Out There, If You're Not Cheap.

The updated (and frankly, better written and edited) version will be on my Medium blog December 7th, 2020 with the title " The Myth of the Tech Talent Shortage and The Cost To Your Business ." My Medium profile is here . This post is getting attention again: Hi. I like to think I've gotten less angry than when this was posted (Though I still think it's true, the times have changed with COVID-19, and I could have worded this more constructively). I'm pivoting to different areas of IT; Check the services and projects tag.   It's still BS that there aren't more part time positions in IT and tech. It's not like the talent isn't plentiful.  From Pexels.com Atlanta, Georgia Baltimore, Maryland Newark, New Jersey Savannah, Georgia What do they have in common? They have been the victim of serious cyberattacks on their infrastructure. Said attacks cost the affected city governments and companies more than 30$million dollars . ...

DIY POS ft. Panera

** WILL RELOCATE** Have to put that in because this is the post that shows up on Bing/Google search when you search this blog title. Panama City, Florida is becoming a new place. While the mall won't return, instead opting for 2 department stores, a Planet Fitness, and a movie theater you have to enter through a back alley, other places nearby are being remodeled after extensive damage from Hurricane Michael. The Books A Million is beautiful and the Target is sleek and modern. A lot of blue metal and wood. The Panera has also followed suit. It's a shame it took a Category 5 storm to drag the city into the 21st Century, but better late than never. I'm happy for them, and will be even happier when I am living in another city. Remodels can't fix a mismatch of opportunity. Today is Panera's day. Gone is the charmingly late 90's decor, jumping 2 decades in 2 weeks with sleek, white rustic touches, a lot of glass, and a lot of natural light. I dig it. ...

Let A Mouse Teach You About Computers; Teacher's Pet Chip

Here's a fun, tech-related little fellow that I've had for years; Chip! He has googly eyes too. A little plush mouse that opens up to be a pocket guide to computers! Written by Dee Wood. Illustrated by Andy Peters. I wonder if they still write and illustrate? If you can see the copyright, it says 2000. I was 7 in 2000, and probably bought this at a Scholastic Book Fair, as it includes 2 things I love to this day - Computers and rodents. This thing is almost 20 years old, and I've kept it all that time.

Where Do I Want To Go?

The many, many people offering advice all normally say the same thing; Where do you want to go? Anywhere but here. What companies or industries do you want to work for? Those listed in this post. What do you want to do with your skills? Can you believe it, they are also listed in this post! I just thought about talking about it. I'm not here to make 100k a year, that comes with too much responsibility, and my mental well-being is not worth sacrificing for your profit. Simply put, here are three industries I would like to work in.
