Case Study: The Disappearing Data of T-Mobile

NOTE : The problem has repeated itself. So this doubles as an off the cuff case study in level 1 troubleshooting, looking at data, comparing information at different locations.  Also - I wrote it, and I'm not wasting my time by not publishing it.  I have the Samsung Galaxy A12, and the service through T-Mobile is pretty good. While the infrastructure around our nation is fair at best, it's showing it's age and weakness in storms - and that may apply to private towers owned by T-Mobile as well.  I turn on data, and either: It works The symbol in the upper right does not show up and it's not working. The symbol shows up and the data still doesn't work.     Here's a demo; Other videos are available upon request. Now, there is a setting where I can change the mobile band (2G/3G, 3G/4G) my phone uses, something I was unaware of until a cool Twitter user let me know. This alleviates the problem sometimes, but if I go hours without using data, the problem returns.  Cou

Case Study: T-Mobile Tuesdays and The Starbucks Deal of December 10th, 2019

SITUATION: About 3 weeks ago, T-Mobile has a second deal in its popular T-Mobile Tuesdays app: "Come back at 3PM Central to get a Starbucks 3$ gift card!" This would not be the first time the Telecommunications brand encouraged people to flood the app to get free or discounted food - earlier in 2019, there was a similar deal with Panda Express, and the Chinese-American Chain was not prepared to handle the orders, letting many of them go unfulfilled. Would T-Mobile be more ready? I mean, they are a telecommunications company, right?

No School Like The #NewTMobile; Communications New-Giant Pushing 5G Out December 6th

What a difference 6 months makes. T-Mobile announced today, under the hashtag # NewTMobile several things - Low Prices 5G Nationwide And all on December 6th They did all this with a livestream featuring John Legere. T-Mobile is pushing a narrative about this being for the greater good, in order to sooth the 5 of us who were concerned about the ( approved by the FCC) merger between T-Mobile and Sprint.  There are services they mention that lean toward that - Free Unlimited Data Plans for First Responders  Lower pricing. Free Internet for low-income families affected by the Homework Gap - When students can't do online homework because they simply have no internet service. (And that's why municipal broadband needs to be a thing nationwide) A hashtag - #5GForGood So, how does 5G work? Let me explain how 5G works. In order to have lightning fast speeds AND dependable broad coverage, you need all 3 spectrum bands. Combining @TMobile 's 600 MHz an

The T and G - T-Mobile Launching 5G, of course it's rather limited [The Verge]

As I read this article , the power is out. It's been flicking on and off for a few days now as construction is going on in the neighborhood. I'm using T-Mobile's Hotspot Feature yet again. And if I were in a city that mattered, such as LA, NYC, Vegas, and ones that matter slightly less but still matter more than where I am - Dallas, Cleveland - and had a Samsung Galaxy S10, I'd be cruising along on 5G. Curiously, they're not testing in Chicago, as Verizon already has that covered . mmWave Spectrum has even more limited of a range, so if I were in Hell's Kitchen in NYC, sipping a cappuccino from a local coffee shop, then I could be cruising along on 5G. There's one big caveat on having the Galaxy S10, however, and you can read about that at the source. EMPLOYERS : This is me keeping up with changing technologies.

T-Mobile Brings Us The Streaming Service of The Day

https://www.cnet.com/news/t-mobile-launches-new-tvision-home-streaming-service/?ftag=COS-05-10aaa0b&linkId=65931549 First it was Netflix, and I only use free trials to watch Clone Wars. Then it was Disney+, which will now have Clone Wars. Then it was AppleTV+, which I have only marginal interest in one show. And now it's... T-Vision , a rebranded version of Layer3TV. No word on if that is 'Layer3' as in the Network Layer. Starts at 90$ a month for live tv, 275+ channels, 4k HD programming, and thousands of movies and shows onDemand. This article calls it " TV That Learns You ". Because I'm not on LinkedIn with this post, I don't have to pretend to be excited about yet another service gathering data on me to sell to people in this information age.

(Signal) Boost This Post (Ft. T-Mobile Again)

Yep, this happened. Refer back to Towers of Power Ft. T-Mobile. To recap: This is the fruits of my father’s effort, and the fruits of mine were getting our signals refreshed to the tower and reestablishing connectivity. That's part of the reason I'm even posting this, because there's no cost to actually use our T-Mo hotspot on our phones. It's pretty fast! I'm not a shill, I swear. This is a 4G LTE signal booster. There are two pieces - a Window Unit, and a Coverage Unit. It comes with a few instruction booklets. I notice once says “You must register your device with your wireless provider and have your provider’s consent.” Well, they sent it to me. I hope they know I have it. My first thought was actually “I haven’t had Xfinity for three weeks, how am I supposed to do that?” Before I remember context clues.
