Business Bonus: Why did The "Willy Wonka Experience" Fool So Many People?

This month really has been FebruAIry, hasn't it?  ICYMI: The Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Experience , run by an "event" company, was an incredibly odd disappointment that happened in Glasgow, Scotland last week. The lush and wonderful treats promised were not in attendance, upsetting guests young and old. So you must be asking, why is this here? On a tech portfolio? Because I'm here to ask; How did this fool so many people? I don't blame the people who paid for this (Not totally): Some are parents who needed a fun activity for their families. Others just wanted to see a cool world and burn an hour or so. It's making us laugh all over the world. However, there were plenty of reasons to believe this wasn't up to snuff. Because just look at this site for the Willy Wonka Experience Event ; You and I can immediately see this is AI generated:   There are also no pictures about this actual event - or any of their past events - on the website. The copy ...

Business Bonus: Netflix Livestream Turns Into A Learning Opportunity

Good on Netflix for being more like cable television, from adding ads , to attempting to livestream in 2023.  I am not familiar with Netflix's "Love Is Blind" show, but on 4/16, Netflix had intended to livestream a reunion at 8/7c, and it was hotly anticipated. To their credit, they did it successfully earlier this year, after a comedian's stint at the Hippodrome Theater in March, where there was apparently a waiting room for viewers while technical checks were run. When it did not start on time, tweets began to flow in confusion -- and jokes. Netflix tried to play along and soothe impatient fans: Love is ... late #LoveIsBlindLIVE will be on in 15 minutes! — Netflix (@netflix) April 17, 2023 Even (the last existing) Blockbuster took to the stage to fire shots: Remember renting vhs’ from us. You could start it on time no problem… This is what we get. — Blockbuster (@blockbuster) April 17, 2023 Apparently, the internet at the venue had issues :   That's Vanes...

Business Bonus: Disney. Just Disney.

The Mouse House is in the news, for some changes people are calling rat-like. If you missed the wheeling and dealing of the release of Scarlett Johansson suing Disney for shortchanging her 'Black Widow' pay, it's one for the history books. But Disney recently released something that may hit closer to home. A pay-per-ride system, Genie+, will be implemented in US parks in the near future. It's reminiscent of the ticket books DisneyLand used in the 60s. Now, it's digital, and apparently similar to MaxPass? Truthfully, I haven't been in a Disney park since about 2012. I'm not a Disney Parks person; I like other aspects of Disney; The Animated Canon and some TV shows. It's a dream of mine to stay at a Deluxe Resort - Riviera or Animal Kingdom's Jambo House. But any further than that, is fun I'll leave for someone else. But I do follow multiple Disney news outlets - and several Disney social media accounts - and most park guests fall into 3 categor...

Business Bonus: LinkedIn down, Internet Clowns

When the world's .... strangest networking site when down on Feb. 23rd, people were quick with the jokes. Some of my peers find value in LinkedIn; After 4 years, I see it as a soundboard for everything wrong with the modern workforce, a giant conference for people with no empathy, wearing 16-hour workdays as badges of honor. Besides their abysmal censoring of black professionals and the rampant bigotry of the userbase, LinkedIn (Owned by Microsoft), have been posting more articles that empower the jobseeker.  And, slowly, people on the site have been changing too - For the better. They're being deprogrammed, learning that their job doesn't really warrant a 40-hour week, that their company could absolutely pay them the same for less hours, that they too can have a happier, more balanced life if they push for it. But we still had THE JOKES.  Only my tweets are directly embedded; If you see yours here and would like me to embed them, contact me on Twitter. Society ...

Business Bonus: Oh, Paypal, Where Art Thou (Currency Conversion)? (Up. 4/19)

Imagine being the largest online money transfer company in the world. You deal with international payments and multiple currencies. You charge a fee in exchange for benefits like one-click transaction, and people are happy to oblige. You were spearheaded to glory by Elon Musk himself. You are Paypal. And a big part of your business is broken.    Feb. 24th - The Issue was fixed for me, though I am hearing reports that it wasn't for everyone. In fact, the error came back for me once again . The work arounds do not work. If the system remains up and operation for a week , I will edit. Starting February 11th, 2021, people have been reporting that they cannot convert currency. People supporting friends, family, and commerce abroad find their money stuck in the native currency.  It's reported for at least 10 people on Paypal's forums.  Several people on Twitter have also reported the issue. Note the dates; Feb 17th through 20th. I have an inkling on how software and databa...
