I can open any email in 2024 and have it mention AI. Today, I've opened one from NameCheap and every bit of copy is mentioning some other AI ('clever captions'...captions should be understandable first and foremost) .
I'm not in the business of being against AI, more so against companies who use it as an excuse to cut staff and leave users with an inferior product. Less people being paid means less money you get as a company. Keep that in mind.
The book released in 2016, but the foundations haven't changed. Quotes from the book are italicized, and my comments follow.
Any general AI, and most narrow AIs, will probably combine many algorithms
So the joke is on people who think they have to fight a singular algorithm to get their content seen. You have to fight multiple, like a hydra, more likely. Good luck fighting that algorithm you speak of!
Mark Zuckerberg recently said that AI will be better than humans at most basic tasks in 5 to 10 years
Remember that this book came out in 2016. We have reached the point where people are being laid off in favor of AI that is still not quite up to replacing all of us snuff. Hence how fear of AI is really fear of how our fellow man will use it to screw us over feed it biased data, etc.
but we do want machines that can solve different kinds of problems without being programmed with domain-specific knowledge
Do we? The authors proceed to use self-driving cars and the amount of on the fly decisions it has to make to get us from point A to point B as an example.
our current AIs provide narrow solutions to specific problems; they aren’t general problem solvers.
The most commercial AI interactions are rather general from the pool of data they pull from; At least in late 2022, ChatGPT outright said that the data it gets its answers and learning from is at least 6 months "behind". Does this mean they're taking care to comb through the data and clean it up? Who - or what - is doing that behind the scenes?
Don't misunderstand me, I appreciate that they aren't actively searching the internet, and Microsoft's Copilot is using a Bing search data set.
over the next decade, we’ll see AI steadily creep into one product after another
Companies have been using AI for years (and not likely in the ATS), and it was in tandem to working with people. That seems to have changed quite recently, as with constant change and the maw of capitalism saying to grow at all reasonable cost, people are being let go and AI is being leaned on more.
