Fun fact: This was initially about Roblox, but when I came across a survey about making a meta verse avatar, I decided to go the whole hog with it. I've always loved create your own avatar games.
While the metaverse as a concept to the GP is already outdated, some interesting things were created before everyone decided machine learning via ChatGPT and its clones were the hot new ticket to claw our way out of Web 2.0
First, ReadyPlayerMe is a place to create a Metaverse avatar that you can import into the surprising amount of meta verse games out there.
I hit the androgynous face type and couldn't change it again but you know what, I like it! Even if it's still somewhat masculine. These days, people seem to be very 1:1 about their virtual avatars. It's just them in a shirt and pants. The world is your oyster, make your virtual hair green and give yourself android lines on your body.
Building a level is a lot more intuitive (and doesn't kill my CPU) than using Roblox.
You start off with a plain ... plain to work with.
The menu at the bottom allows you to select an element to place on the screen; Selecting E opens a very vast list:
Many elements tie into other aspects of gameplay; See that rounded blue circle, two spots to the left of the highlighted green circle? That could take a player to another Hiberworld level.
You can also pattern just about anything with a different look.
One thing that stood out was the lack of a simple water texture. It was icy, glacier ice, broken ice, and while not a big deal, someone on the Hiberworld team really likes ice.
The object of these Hiberworld games is to, despite the buzzy copy, find keys and reach the end of the level, though my first level is simply getting a feel for things -- Check out Selenium Jungle by clicking over here. Do you think you can finish it?
(You don't need to create an avatar to test it out; You'll be given a simple one to maneuver around.
From it's simple level builder to the fun of importing an avatar, Hiberworld is a fun place to get started with the metaverse for all ages. I do think the metaverse as a whole will not necessarily take off, but if so, ReadyPlayerMe is ready with fun, bright icons for everyone.
I hope the next trend in tech is what Web 1.0 was -- A free place, where everyone wasn't trying to be advertised to, or push a "personal brand", and a place to have fun, get help , and still be hired.
