Exploring Azure for System Admins

Throughout my travels, I've come across some interesting things in Azure. This is not a comprehensive list; In fact, it's rather scrappy. I'd go "Oh, neat idea." and stick it into this blog post over months.

Azure Storage Explorer


A lot of information came from this video by HarvestingClouds.



This is using connect with Name and Key. There's an option to use http to connect, but I go with https. We can attach by right-clicking the relevant connection.

Remember when you learned to set permissions on local files?



Of course you do.



You can do the same through the Azure Portal, with a few more features, such as an access control list for IP addresses, and start/expiry dates.



Peering 2 virtual Networks under the same subscription (in the same group. Which may defeat the entire purpose of peering.)



Checking the visitor stats of a static webpage (I brought it down, but you can still see the URL).

Using SSH Keys with Windows on Azure



I have SSH'd into Routers, Switches, things long forgotten. So now let's have a go with a Virtual Machine on Azure, running Ubuntu.


Hitting yes causes the remote host to close the connection. I think the keys may not match.

Also, notice that it doesn't have the SSH at the beginning of the command, only keys. Here, everything works, and I have SSH'd into an Ubuntu VM.

Making KPI Dashboards with PowerBI

 While this is the free tier, I cannot share or collaborate with others, nor can I publish content to other people's workspaces, but they will not stop me from screenshooting and recording these self-taught adventures,so! I'm doing this because I idly searched "Mattel careers" and "Information Technology", and seeing a bulletpoint saying the following: Analytical and reporting skills such as creating dashboards and establishing KPIs such as experience with PowerBI, Cognos, Tableau, and Google Data Lake/AWS is preferred And thought "Well, I've used Tableau, and I've heard about PowerBI,  even if its in-demandness is questionable , so how similar is it? And can I write about it?"  First, PowerBI (PIB) does have a downloadable, local version, but apparently Windows-only. Review: Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds

  Ah yes, almost 3 years ago, I wrote this review (Despite getting the earbuds for Christmas, I wanted to use them for a few months before writing). And in December of 2023, the right one began to get dull regarding sound. I always make sure they're clean - Ear infections are no joke, clean your earbuds - so that wasn't it, I never got the verification code from Samsung to make an account for them to be repaired, and Samsung Support through chat told me to go to my local approved dealer, a random shop 50 miles away that wouldn't actually give me an estimate. I'd much rather repair than replace, especially if it's a gift. I'll open (or attempt to) the faulty one and look around and still use the other one. So here, let's get some new ones on sale, using a combination of giftcards and luck.
