I don't remember which distro of Linux Webserver I used - My computer has Ubuntu, so my guess is that flavor.
I'm working in datafile.txt - But not so fast!
The initial edited datafile.txt file.
First is remembering the password for the second, non-root, user - or, simply changing it!
So instead of following the direction exactly, It threw me an error. Still opened nano, but not datafile.txt. Just a blank file and I made my confusion known.
The next step involves changing the file owner to another user - one ubuntu:app-data-group. If it's an already installed user on the system, it's not showing up for me.
Or it may be the fact that the dashes on a standard, US keyboard are not the right character, but instead ASCII 150. That's a first - Do you encounter things like this often?
So I just changed the owner to enduser.
The point is still made, right?
You can see in opening the passwd file the processes and users - Nobody except the root user has a user ID that starts with 0, so no one has unnecessary and possibly dangerous permissions on this system.
We can see running services on our Linux Server...of which I have none.
